Great Easter Ideas

Looking for a few great ideas on how to create an Easter worth remembering? Check out these great Easter ideas that will make your Easter fun-filled and fabulous without breaking the bank.

First things first- locate a dollar store. Do not underestimate the mighty dollar store. These places are chock full of great deals that you just can’t beat. If possible, look for a big-name dollar store, such as Dollar Tree, 99cent Only Stores, Family Dollar, or Dollar General. If you have a favorite, that’s fine, just make sure that the toys and other things found there meet USA Federal Regulations. Basically, you don’t want lead in the paint or any other carcinogens that might harm your little ones. (Note: Avoid buying toothpaste at the dollar store. Just trust us on this one.)

Once you’ve located your dollar store of choice, pick out a few ideas that fit with your family’s needs and get ready to go Easter Crazy!

You should try Easter Garlands

1. Easter Garlands– Grab a few bags of easter eggs(the plastic kind), some ribbon, a needle, and thread, and get ready to beautify your front door, hallway, table, or anywhere you want to put this nifty little invention.

Essentially, you sit down with all your eggs and begin by opening one egg and threading your needle with some pretty sturdy thread, or fishing line, and thread it through one side of your first egg. (Note: Standard eggs should come with a hole already in the top and bottom. This makes this whole project so much easier!) Add a second egg by opening the egg, threading through the outside of the bottom of the egg and the inside of the top, closing the egg, and continuing on to the next one. Keep going until the garland is as long as you desire, or you run out of eggs. For added flare, you can take some ribbon and cut a few strips of it. Tie a knot at one end and thread the other end through the first and last eggs on your garland. Use a toothpick to help you push them through the hole and just let them hang there, being pretty. Easter Boquet is also a good option!

2. Easter Boquet– For a quick, fun centerpiece, try out a simplified version of this idea from Dollarstorecrafts.com

First, pick up some Easter grass, a piece of floral foam, some Easter Egg picks, and a container of your choosing, just make sure it isn’t see-through.

Take your container and place the floral foam in it- this may require you to cut the foam to fit. Now stick those egg picks into the foam in any formation you desire. You can even cut the pick sticks to create varying levels. Cover the foam with the Easter grass and Voila! Perfect Easter centerpiece for under five bucks. Enjoy!

Don’t forget about Easter Baskets!

3. Easter baskets– In addition to the numerous craft supplies dollar stores tend to carry, especially Dollar Tree, these stores have a great selection of small treats that fit wonderfully together to create personalized Easter baskets on the cheap.

While at your local dollar store, pick out a container for each person you want to make a basket for. Select various items such as candies, office supplies, small treats from the food section, body wash, lotion, loofahs, or any other nifty little baubles you come across. If you have multiple children you’re shopping for, try and pick a color for each child and select toys/candies/etc. in the colors for each child. Grab some Easter grass, ribbon, and maybe a couple of mini-decorations, and check out.

Before sitting down to create your masterpieces, get together any other little trinkets you may want to include in the baskets, such as home-baked goods, dolls, or games, or GloveyHuggeys, to help your child stop thumb sucking if necessary.

Once you have all your loot, separate it into piles for each basket. Now just take each container and assemble the baskets. Lay down some easter grass, stuff those suckers with candy and treats, add a bit more grass, and top each one with a ribbon or bow! You can even add name tags or if you want to get really creative, paint or stamp the recipient’s name on the container. And that’s it. Personalized Easter baskets for way cheaper than the pre-assembled kind.

Something special…more than candy!

4. More than Candy– who doesn’t love an Easter Egg Hunt? And while opening each egg and finding candy inside may be fun for kids, there are a lot of other things you can stick in those eggs that will keep your kids from getting a sugar high.

Instead of candy, stuff your eggs with puzzle pieces, erasers, lip gloss, bouncy balls, hair ribbons or ties, mini nail polishes, Hot Wheels, marbles, temporary tattoos, whistles, change, or even dollar bills. You might want to stuff only a couple with dollar bills and hide those ones really well. Just don’t forget where you put them! You can even stuff your eggs with seeds and plant them later in the day, or week.

If you want to stick to edibles but still want to avoid candy, you can stuff your eggs with animal crackers, marshmallows, fruit snacks, and Ritz mini cracker sandwiches. Just keep in mind that standard eggs usually have holes in the top and bottom, so you may want to wrap any edibles, candy included, in plastic wrap or sandwich bags before you put them in the eggs. No one wants to open up an egg to find ants inside!

No matter what you choose to do for Easter, remember to stay safe and have fun!
